Closure of Third Mainland Bridge To Commence on Saturday July 8
The partial closure of Third Mainland Bridge in order to pave way for maintenance works will commence on Saturday, July 8, 2012.
This was revealed at a stakeholders meeting which held on Friday July, 7 2012 at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The Minister of State for Works, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda who presided over the meeting said Borini Prono, the contractor handling the repair work would mobilize to site tomorrow.
The Minister of State also said that the maintenance work is expected to last four months and would see a partial closure of the bridge with consequent re-routing of traffic.
The first phase of the repair works will start on the Lagos Island-bound carriageway between Ebute Metta interchange and Adeniji Adele end.
This section of the bridge will not be available for vehicular traffic for the duration of the repairs.
The second phase is on the Oworoshoki-bound carriageway, between Adeniji Adele and Ebute metta interchange.
Some of the alternative routes to Lagos Island enumerated by the minister include: 1) Ikorodu Road-Yaba-Oyingbo-Iddo-Lagos Island.
2. Ikorodu Road-Western Avenue-Lagos Island
3. Agege Motor Road-Oshodi-Apapa-Lagos Island/Victoria Island
4. Apapa-Oshodi Expressway-Mile 2-Orile-Lagos Island/VI
